Lavaudieu Most beautiful villages in France

Do you remember ? It's me Sara! After discovering Brioude, I'm back to tell you about my visit to Lavaudieu, a village classified among The Most Beautiful Villages of France ". During this day I was welcomed by Alexandra and Candice. I thank them very much. Their knowledge allowed me to have a good approach to the village of Lavaudieu where I visited the Cloister, the Museum of Popular Art and Traditions, the Exhibition Hall and the whole village as a whole...

To begin with, the atmosphere is very pleasant and friendly: its "southern" climate, its light-coloured stone facades, the small size of the small village which is a real eye-catcher!

During my “walk” I passed along the Senouire: a river that runs along Lavaudieu, a tributary of the Allier, a very quiet, soothing watercourse, with lots of fish that you can see “up close”; river very popular with fishermen.

I went to the Lavaudieu showroom. The artist Fabienne Récanzone Tilmont, painter from the region exhibited and shared her talent. His painting is unique and none of his works are alike. She expresses her moods, everyone can relate to it. The next exhibition will be dedicated to the floral works of Patricia Migne

I continue and I arrive at the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions. It is an old baker's house which has been put back on the "stage" to explain what life was like in the XNUMXth century.e century.

Upon entering the house, one has the feeling that time has stopped. The large living room hasn't “moved”, as if the baker had gone out for a run. Continuing to advance we discover a large barn which was used to keep the cows safe. Upstairs, three large bedrooms reconstructed as in "the era": beds, bedspreads, display cases with everyday objects, old outfits worn by the inhabitants, and also old coins and banknotes, books...

The cloister – a place not to be missed

I also had the chance to participate in the guided tour of the Cloister of Lavaudieu. It is a cloister for nuns, created to accommodate nuns. It is the only intact Romanesque cloister in Auvergne.

This very impressive place! We discover a large number of arcades, columns (often twin columns) decorated with different sculptures that tell a story.

From inside the cloister you can see the very pretty truncated bell tower. This bell tower was truncated during the Revolution. He is wearing a Phrygian cap which serves as a weather vane.

The guided tour ends with “the refectory”: a very impressive room because it is large. On a section of the wall you can admire the large fresco dating from the XNUMXth century. It shows Christ and the tetramorphs. Very close we see the Virgin surrounded by her apostles.

Ingenious! in this room there was a serving hatch.

Then I end the visit with the outdoor gardens which offer a very beautiful view of the valley and the river.

To end the day I made a friend (cat) 😊

I really appreciated this authentic, preserved and quiet village
