Village located on the foothills of Cézallier, on the sides of the old Montfouat volcano, between Cézallier and the Alagnon valley.

All year, every day.

From the highest point of the latter, at 1035 meters, a panel of landscapes opens up to you, with a view in the distance over the Livradois, Cantal and the Auvergne Volcanoes Natural Park. Montfouat was strongly eroded by Quaternary glaciers. Between 4,5 and 4,7million years before our era, its eruption caused a basaltic flow which filled the first valley of Bave and by conversely of relief formed the plateau of Gray where it is today so pleasant to walk. This flow can be observed as far as Chadecol with its famous basaltic organs.
The valley of the Bave which crosses the town is today a protected natural area where one can observe, with a little luck, otters, crayfish or wild trout. Autrac is also known for welcoming a large number of raptors during their migrations, such as the red kite, the common harrier or even the circaetus Jean-Le-Blanc.
The village of Autraguet is home to a small Romanesque church, the only religious building in the town, under the name of St Julien de Brioude. This former priory depended until the XNUMXth century on the Abbey of Blesle.
The hamlet of Montmoirat is home to a stronghold, the former hunting residence of the Dukes of Mercœur.
Several pedestrian paths make it possible to grasp firsthand the notion of "inverted relief".
