It is the Benedictine abbey established in the Middle Ages which made the valley of the Senouire "the valley of God" which gave its name to the village.

Between the gorges of the Allier and the forests of Livradois, this charming haven of peace with a remarkable structure is organized around a former Benedictine abbey erected on the banks of the Senouire. An ensemble that houses the only Roman cloister preserved intact in Auvergne.
