Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions of Haute-Loire

It was in 1969, on the occasion of the ninth centenary of the abbey's founding, that the idea arose to preserve the traces of rural life still very much present in Lavaudieu. Over the years, thanks to donations from the inhabitants of the village and surrounding area, the collections have grown. Today, the Friends of Lavaudieu Association, which owns the museum, is dedicated to promoting and developing this unique heritage.

In 2013, more than a thousand objects were recorded! Period furniture, agricultural tools, everyday objects – sometimes unexpected or unusual – constitute a real plunge into the past.

Visitors discover an atmospheric museum where each room seems inhabited: the great hall where the occupants appear to have stepped away for a moment, the "vigil room," the adjoining stable – a testament to a peasant-baker's home – and the upstairs bedrooms. Here, time seems suspended, inviting a sensitive encounter with life as it once was.
